AI is not just growing. It is accelerating.

It has already started entering our jobs. IT companies are laying off employees. And this is not a future. It's a current situation.

Even Sridhar Vembu, former CEO of Zoho Corporation, said:

"At this point, it is best for those of us who depend on writing code for a living to start considering alternative livelihoods. I include myself in this. I don't say this in panic, but with calm acceptance and embrace."

That line hit me hard.

This is coming from someone who built a global tech company.

AI Is No Longer Just a Tool

Earlier, AI was a support system.

Now?

It is becoming infrastructure.

Look at the evolution within just two years:

AI agents & advanced assistants (Claude). AI assistant inside IDE (Cursor). Web-based vibe coding (Lovable.dev). Chat interface (ChatGPT)

This transformation didn't take 10 years. It took some years.

I still remember in 2024 when ChatGPT struggled to converse properly in Tamil. Now it replies fluently, even in Tanglish, as naturally.

Hallucinations are reducing. Reasoning is improving. Execution is faster.

Recently, I built a small full-stack website within a day. Not just frontend. Full stack. With decent security implementation.

The AI planned the architecture. It executed the code. It debugged errors. It even handled CORS issues.

The AI agent accessed the database, checked the hosting configuration, and fixed issues.

At one point, I literally thought:

"Hey… what the hell is going on here?"

But Wait… Didn't I Say AI Is Just an Assistant?

Yes.

In my earlier blog, "The Impact of AI Tools Like Lovable.dev on Developers," I clearly said AI is an assistant. It helps developers. It increases productivity.

And it still does.

But now the real question is:

What if AI doesn't just assist us… but replaces us?

That thought is uncomfortable.

The Pattern of History

Every technological revolution followed a pattern:

It created new ones.. It destroyed old jobs.

History proves that again and again. In the Industrial Revolution, Computers, the Internet, and smartphones.

Each wave displaced people. But new industries were born.

So logically, AI will also create new jobs.

But here is the real question:

How long will that transition take?

One year? Five years? A decade?

No idea.

And that uncertainty is the real tension.

It's not only us. Even the IT companies had no idea, "What to do?"

Social Media for AI Agents

Now, many of them are aware of Moltbook, a social media for AI agents. They were released recently at the end of January. Within 10 days, millions of AI agents start using that. After a month, the founder even got hired by OpenAI as a head of OpenAI AI Agents. Things are moving insanely fast.

The Multi-Agent Future

Anthropic (the company behind Claude AI) is working on multi-agent or sub-agent systems. I forgot the exact name of that.

Imagine this:

One tests and debugs.. One builds the backend.. One writes frontend.. One handles UI/UX design.. One AI agent plans the software architecture.

They divide tasks like a real engineering team.

And they collaborate.

When this becomes stable and production-ready, what happens to traditional developer teams?

Layoffs?

Restructuring?

Or evolution?

We are already seeing global tech stocks fluctuate. Companies are restructuring. Efficiency is the new priority.

The Emotional Conflict

I've written many blogs about AI.

In March, I wrote "Prompting & My Life", where I openly said AI changed my life. It did.

But now sometimes I feel… Is it slowly starting to destroy it?

To be honest, this thought didn't come only from me. I spoke with professionals in the industry. Many of them used similar words. I just expressed what they're quietly thinking.

So… Opportunity or Danger?

I honestly don't know.

AI is powerful. AI is efficient. AI is evolving faster than we expected.

It is no longer just software.

It is infrastructure.

Will it replace us?

Maybe.

Will it create new opportunities?

Definitely.

But the timing, the scale, and the impact, that's uncertain.

And uncertainty is what makes this era both exciting and terrifying.

Final Question

Are we witnessing the biggest opportunity of our generation?

Or the beginning of the largest workforce disruption in history?
